Hi guys!
We're having calm Christmas days so we started to plan the next long ride in June 2015. After having perfect weather last June in the south of England ( 3000 km) and again in late October in Italy ( 3000 km) we are going to head north to Scotland next June. The ferry to Newcastle is already booked!
As there are a lot of people on the forum who did ride Scotland I would be thankful to get some advices what to do and what to leave out. Roads, nice places to stay (B&B), everything is appreciated. As we don't want to rush through we're planing a couple of days without riding (Oban, Durness, Inverness and Edinburgh). We want to ride "clockwise" as we want to finish in Edinburgh where we are going to visit the Foofighters concert ( ) end of June before heading home.
I have read a lot here in this forum and also in the Explorer-forum and put together our routing.
The route so far:
Newcastle via hadrians wall to the west probably to Aye or nearby.
Aye to Dunoon and to Oban.
Oban- Campbeltown - Oban.
Oban - Loch Lomond - Strathyre -Oban
Oban - Glencoe - Oban
Oban - Mull - Tobermory
Tobermory - Mallaig - Skye
Skye round trip
Skye - Torridon via Applecross
Torridon - Ullapool
Ullapool - Durness
Durness - Inverness
Inverness - cruising somewhere in the Speyside (Maybe Dufftown as overnight stay)
Dufftown - Cairngorns NP - Edinburgh
Edinburgh - Newcastle and back home

What do you think about our plans so far?
Any comments?
Looking forward...
Cheers and Merry Christmas to all.
Elmar

Sounds like a great trip, try to take in the hydro power station at Cruachan started with a mad jock and a pick axe, inside there is enough room to hold St Pauls cathedral, it's quite impressive.
It's at the head of Lock Awe where the river Awe feeds in.

Mick . . . Keep the rubber side down!!

Sounds awsome! Don't forget to pack your waterproofs ...

If you want a truly magical place ... drop on to the Ardnamurchan peninsula ... I went one Summer Solstice ... sat on the rocks on Britains most Westerly point watching the sun paint the sky. If you're lucky (we were) you'll see Golden eagles cruising the sky during late afternoon.

There are so many places to go but my pick would be:

The beautiful beaches around Lochinver and Sandwood Bay. Oh and have a haggis pie and the famous pie shop.

The Summer Isles - the road out to them and the view is quite something.

Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness is a worth a look. But then, much of Scotland is stunning.

Oh and the Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways is epic!

Sounds like a great trip. Hope the weather holds for you.

Thank you so far!!!
Looked up the places, they are all on our route or nearby. The Summer Isles seem to be very interesting too. So we go into further planning...
Best
